Election Proposal

During the April 16th, 2026 Neighborhood Meeting, an announcement was made regarding an election for Saturday, November 7th, 2026. The Colonialtown North Neighborhood Association is required to announce the date and time of an election at an advertised meeting, and then take an approval vote at the following meeting. Our next meeting is set for Thursday, July 16th, 2026 at the Colonialtown Neighborhood Center. At that meeting, a majority vote of residents in attendance will be needed to move forward with the November election. Below is the Election Proposal put forth by the Board.

Volunteers Needed:

4

Volunteer Positions:

2x Check- In, Ballot Receiver, Floater

Volunteer Restrictions:

Current Board Members and Committee Chairs are unable to serve as voting volunteers.

Volunteer Position Descriptions:

Check-In: Checks IDs to confirm address within Colonialtown North, and have the voters sign-in (voters names should only be placed on the sign-in sheet, and not the ballot). Hands ballot to eligible voters, directs voters to voting area

Ballot Receiver: Positions themselves next to the ballot box to make sure voters know where to drop off the ballot. The ballot box will remain sealed during voting hours and will only be opened at 2:00 PM in the presence of volunteers and any observing candidates.

Floater: Assists with other positions as needed. Welcomes voters, and helps Ballot Receiver make sure ballots remain within the room.

  • Volunteers should rotate positions and take breaks as needed. Floaters will step into position during a break.

  • Ballots will be counted collectively by all volunteers, with results verified before announcement.

  • Candidates (or a representative of the candidate) can view the ballot counting process

  • Candidates are only allowed in the room while casting their own ballots during voting times. They are then welcome to return at 2pm.

  • Any disputes regarding voter eligibility will be resolved by a majority decision of the on-site volunteers.

  • Final vote totals will be announced publicly after counting is complete.

Ballot Types:

  • All will be “Secret Ballots”

  • If a two person race, the race will be head-to-head with the winner being the top vote getter. In the event of a tie, a runoff election between tied candidates will be scheduled within a reasonable timeframe.

  • If more than two candidates for a position. In this case, the use of a rank choice system will be implemented. Voters will mark their choices from 1 through the number of candidates. If no candidate receives over 50% (50% + 1) of the votes, then the last place finisher will be eliminated and their voters will be counted as going to those voters’ next choice. Follow this process until a candidate receives over 50%.

  • Ballots that are incomplete (this does not count those deciding to not vote for each position), unclear, or improperly marked may not be counted.

Candidate Nominations:

Candidates can nominate themselves from August 1-September 30th

No-Contest Races:

If there is only one candidate for a position, after September 30th, the race will be determined to be “no-contest” and the lone candidate will be declared the winner without a vote needed to be made.

No Candidate Situation:

If there are no candidates for a position, after September 30th, the position will be filled by the President (during the term the election is for) who is responsible for appointing open positions according to the association by-laws.
